  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter until fully incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and invert the pan onto a cooling rack. Let the cake cool completely in the pan upside down.
