German Chocolate Cake is not actually German. It is named after Samuel German, who developed a type of dark baking chocolate for Baker’s Chocolate Company in 1852.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sweetened shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the evaporated milk, granulated sugar, butter, and egg yolks over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the mixture over the coconut, pecans, and chocolate chips. Mix well.
  6. Pour the mixture into the pie crust.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 2 hours.
  9. Serve with whipped cream on top.
