Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Drop rounded tablespoons of batter onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

In a small bowl, beat together marshmallow creme, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Spread the filling on the flat side of half of the cookies, then top with the remaining cookies to make sandwiches.
