Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the almond extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.

Once cooled, garnish with sliced almonds and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
