  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cakes have cooled, level the tops if necessary. Stack the cakes on a serving plate, spreading a layer of buttercream frosting between each layer.
