  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined.
  4. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Top with the strawberries.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts. Sprinkle half of the crumb mixture over the strawberries.
  6. Spread the remaining batter over the crumb mixture and top with the remaining crumb mixture.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
