In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is cooling, prepare the peppermint glaze by combining the powdered sugar and peppermint extract.

Once the cake has cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
