  2. In a saucepan, melt the sugar for the flan over medium heat until it caramelizes. Pour the caramel into a round cake pan and swirl to coat the bottom.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla extract, milk, and eggs. Pour the mixture over the caramel in the cake pan.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt for the chocolate cake.
  5. In another mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until well combined.
  7. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and fold it into the chocolate cake batter.
  8. Pour the chocolate cake batter over the flan mixture in the cake pan.
