Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

Cut the blood oranges into thin slices and remove any seeds.

Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour the mixture into the greased cake pan.

Arrange the blood orange slices in a single layer on top of the sugar mixture.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, cream together the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and granulated sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter over the blood orange slices in the cake pan.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
