  2. Cut the blood oranges into thin slices and remove any seeds.
  3. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour the mixture into the greased cake pan.
  4. Arrange the blood orange slices in a single layer on top of the sugar mixture.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. In a separate bowl, cream together the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and granulated sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
