  2. Melt the butter in a 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the melted butter.
  4. Arrange the pineapple slices on top of the brown sugar.
  5. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. In a separate large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and eggs.
  8. Add the vanilla extract, milk, and vegetable oil to the sugar and egg mixture.
  9. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  10. Pour the batter over the pineapple slices in the cake pan.
  11. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
