  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then whisk until smooth. Let the ganache cool for 10 minutes.
  8. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of ganache on top. Place the second cake layer on top and spread ganache over the entire cake.
  9. In a separate bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and remaining heavy cream until thick and creamy. Drizzle over the cake.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
