  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and heavy cream together. Let cool slightly, then whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top, then place the second cake layer on top. Spread the remaining ganache over the top and sides of the cake.
  9. Garnish with fresh berries and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
