Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.

Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Pour the remaining cake batter over the caramel and pecans.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy.

Add vanilla extract and heavy cream. Beat until well combined.

Once the cake has cooled, spread the vanilla buttercream frosting evenly over the top.
