Shepherd’s Pie is traditionally made with lamb, but this recipe uses ground turkey as a leaner alternative.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, sauté the ground turkey over medium heat until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion, carrots, and garlic until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  5. Return the ground turkey to the skillet and add the frozen peas and fresh thyme. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. In a separate pot, melt the butter and stir in the milk and mashed potatoes until smooth.
  7. Transfer the turkey mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes on top.
  8. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper over the mashed potatoes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let the Shepherd's Pie rest for 10 minutes before serving.
