  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the lemon zest, lemon juice, and lemon extract.
  4. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Once the cakes are cooled, spread lemon curd between the layers.
  8. Frost the top and sides of the cake with lemon buttercream frosting.
  9. Garnish with lemon slices.
  10. Chill the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
