  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and slivered almonds.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
