Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Stir in the rum and chopped pecans. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. To make the glaze, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and water, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the rum.
  6. Prick the cooled cake all over with a toothpick, then pour the glaze evenly over the cake. Allow the cake to absorb the glaze for at least 1 hour before serving.
