Frito pie is a popular dish in Texas and is often served at football games and festivals. It was invented in the 1930s by Daisy Dean Doolin, the mother of the founder of Frito-Lay, when she came up with the idea of serving chili on top of Fritos corn chips.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Spread half of the Fritos corn chips in a baking dish. Top with half of the meat mixture and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Serve the Texas Simple Frito Pie hot, topped with sour cream and chopped green onions.
