  • 3 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Molasses
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup Apple butter
  • 2 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Water
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in molasses.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove cakes from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, spread apple butter between each layer of cake.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water to make a glaze.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. Let the cake rest for at least 1 hour before serving.
