Peel and chop the sweet potatoes, then boil them until tender.

Mash the boiled sweet potatoes and set aside.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk.

Fold in the mashed sweet potatoes and chopped pecans.

Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and smooth the top.
