Swedish Tea Cakes, also known as ‘Sju sorters kakor’ (Seven kinds of cookies), are a traditional part of Swedish culture and are often served during fika, a Swedish coffee break.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition.

Stir in the milk to form a smooth dough.

Take small portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each.

Sprinkle pearl sugar on top of each dough ball.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the tea cakes cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
