Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and let cool completely on wire racks.
  5. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
  6. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top, then drizzle with chocolate ganache. Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the process. Finish with a final layer of whipped cream and drizzle with chocolate ganache.
  7. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Enjoy!
