Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan.

In a separate bowl, mix together the pureed strawberries and red food coloring (if using).

Spoon the strawberry mixture over the batter in the cake pan, then swirl it gently with a knife.

Pour the remaining batter over the strawberry swirl.
