Strawberries are not actually berries, but rather an aggregate accessory fruit.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally. Spread the sliced strawberries evenly on the bottom layer. Place the top layer of the cake on the strawberries.
  7. In a separate bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
  8. Spread the whipped cream over the top and sides of the cake. Garnish with additional sliced strawberries.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Enjoy!
