  2. In a large bowl, sift together the cake flour and 3/4 cup of granulated sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt until foamy. Gradually add the remaining 3/4 cup of granulated sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the flour mixture into the egg white mixture, one-third at a time. Fold in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cake from the oven and invert the pan onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mash the strawberries with a fork. In a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Once the cake has cooled, slice it horizontally into three layers. Spread the mashed strawberries on the bottom layer, followed by a layer of whipped cream. Repeat with the remaining layers.
  9. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
