Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Fold in the blackberries.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  8. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of the cream cheese frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
  9. Optional: Garnish with additional blackberries.
  10. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
