  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just blended.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Once the cake is completely cooled, frost with buttercream frosting and decorate with sprinkles.
