  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and rub it in until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped spring onion. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Gradually add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until the dough comes together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 2cm (3/4 inch). Use a round cutter to cut out scones and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter or your favorite spread.
