Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg whites one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Mix until just blended.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
-
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
-
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
In a blender or food processor, puree the strawberries until smooth. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, beat the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and red food coloring until stiff peaks form.
-
Fold in the strawberry puree until well combined.
-
Once the cakes have cooled, spread a layer of strawberry frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining strawberry frosting.
-
Serve and enjoy!
