Rainbow Layer Cake
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Divide the batter evenly into six bowls.
-
Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, creating six different colored batters.
-
Spoon a small amount of each colored batter into the prepared cake pans, layering the colors on top of each other.
-
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
-
Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost with buttercream frosting, layering the colors to create a rainbow effect.
-
Slice and serve.
