  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Divide the batter evenly into six separate bowls.
  5. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, creating six different colored batters.
  6. Spoon the colored batters into the prepared cake pans, creating layers of different colors.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cakes are cooled, stack them on a serving plate, spreading a layer of buttercream frosting between each layer.
  9. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining buttercream frosting.
  10. Slice and serve.
