  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Divide the batter evenly into six bowls.
  5. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  6. Spoon the colored batter into the prepared cake pans, layering the colors on top of each other.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cakes are cooled, stack them on top of each other, spreading a layer of whipped cream between each layer.
  9. Frost the outside of the cake with whipped cream and decorate with sprinkles.
  10. Let the cake rest for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
