  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder and hot water until smooth.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle the cocoa mixture over the batter and swirl with a knife. Top with the remaining batter.
  6. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
