  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan.
  3. Arrange the plum slices in a single layer on top of the sugar mixture.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter over the plum slices in the cake pan.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Place a serving plate upside down on top of the cake pan, then carefully flip the cake onto the plate.
