Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just blended.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Stir in the pink food coloring to one of the pans.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks.

Place the pink cake layer on a serving plate. Spread whipped cream on top and layer with sliced strawberries. Place the second cake layer on top.

Frost the entire cake with whipped cream and decorate as desired.
