  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Grease a round cake pan and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly on the bottom.
  7. Arrange the pineapple rings and maraschino cherries on top of the brown sugar.
  8. Pour the cake batter over the pineapple and cherries.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature.
