  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt the butter and pour it into the greased cake pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the melted butter.
  3. Arrange the pineapple rings on top of the brown sugar, placing a maraschino cherry in the center of each ring.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  7. Pour the batter over the pineapple rings in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate.
