  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just blended.
  5. Fold in the crushed pineapple.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once the cakes are cooled, spread whipped cream on one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with whipped cream.
