  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla bean paste while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
  9. Spread half of the whipped cream filling on top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and spread the remaining whipped cream filling on top.
  10. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cake.
  11. Allow the cake to rest for at least 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
