Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cook until melted and bubbling, stirring constantly. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan.

Arrange the pear slices on top of the sugar mixture in a decorative pattern.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with milk.

Pour the batter over the pears in the cake pan.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
