Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the lemon zest and lemon juice.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the lemon glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest until smooth.
  7. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cake is completely cooled, pour the lemon glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  9. Let the glaze set for about 30 minutes before serving.
