Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the batter alternately with the milk. Mix in the vanilla extract. Pour into the prepared pan.

Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.

In a small saucepan, combine the raspberries and sugar. Cook over medium heat until raspberries break down and sauce thickens slightly, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
