Toffee dates back to the 17th century and was originally made by heating sugar and water together until it reached a caramelized consistency. The addition of dates in this cake adds a sweet and chewy texture.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a cake pan.

In a saucepan, combine the dates, toffee sauce, butter, and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat until the butter and sugar are melted, and the dates are soft.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add the date mixture to the eggs, stirring continuously.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the date mixture and stir well.

Fold in the chopped nuts.

Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and smooth the top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
