  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, butter, egg, salt, and baking powder. Mix until the dough comes together.
  3. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish.
  4. In another bowl, toss the apple slices with cinnamon, lemon juice, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
  5. Arrange the apple slices evenly over the dough in the pie dish.
  6. Roll out the remaining dough and cut it into strips.
  7. Arrange the dough strips in a lattice pattern over the apples.
  8. Brush the top of the pie with milk.
  9. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. Let the pie cool for 10 minutes before serving.
