Momma’s Fair Funnel Cake
Funnel cakes have been a popular treat at fairs and carnivals in the United States since the early 1900s. They are believed to have originated from German immigrants who brought their recipe for ‘drechderkuche’ to Pennsylvania.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

Pour the batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle with a small opening.

Carefully drizzle the batter into the hot oil, starting from the center and swirling outward in a circular motion.
