  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Stir in the applesauce, grated carrots, and chopped walnuts.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
