  2. In a saucepan, combine the orange zest, orange juice, mixed dried fruit, grated apple, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes until the fruit is softened and the mixture is thick.
  3. Roll out the shortcrust pastry and cut out circles to fit into a muffin tin.
  4. Fill each pastry circle with a spoonful of the fruit mixture.
  5. Cut smaller circles or stars from the remaining pastry and place them on top of the filled pies.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the mini pies cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
  8. Transfer the pies to a wire rack and let them cool completely.
  9. Dust with icing sugar before serving.
