  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Pour the mixture into the pie crust and smooth the top.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for another 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set.
  5. While the pie is baking, prepare the meringue. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  6. Gradually add the granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the egg whites. Beat until stiff peaks form.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Spread the meringue over the pie, making sure to seal the edges.
  9. Return the pie to the oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the pie cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  12. Slice and serve chilled.
