  1. Preheat the oven to 120°C (250°F). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  3. Spoon the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheets, forming two 8-inch circles. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  4. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let the meringue cool completely inside.
  5. In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate over a pan of simmering water. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
