Mealie Pie
Mealie Pie is a traditional South African dish that originated from the British dish called Shepherd’s Pie. It is made with ground beef and a cornmeal topping, giving it a unique and delicious flavor.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a saucepan, bring the milk and butter to a boil. Gradually whisk in the cornmeal until thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.

In a separate pan, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.

Add the carrots, peas, beef stock, flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and thyme to the pan with the ground beef. Cook until the mixture thickens.

Transfer the ground beef mixture to a baking dish. Spread the cornmeal mixture over the top.

Beat the egg and brush it over the cornmeal topping.

Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
